TRAVEL
Airport
For your convenience, when traveling to our wedding, we highly recommend flying into Rome Fiumicino International Airport (FCO), also known as Leonardo da Vinci International Airport. As Rome’s primary gateway, it hosts the largest selection of international airlines and offers the most extensive flight options, providing greater flexibility for scheduling and pricing. While you may see flights into Rome’s other airport, Ciampino (CIA), please note that it is smaller and primarily serves budget European airlines, with fewer transport links to the city. We believe FCO will provide the smoothest start to your Italian adventure!
Transportation
Official Taxis (White Cabs)
After collecting your luggage and entering the arrivals hall at either Terminal 1 or Terminal 3, follow the overhead signs for “Taxi.” These signs will lead you directly outside to the official, organized taxi rank with a queue of up to 10/15 minutes. It is essential to use only the official white city taxis, which feature a “TAXI” sign on the roof and display the crest of the “Comune di Roma” on their doors. Ignore anyone who approaches you inside the terminal offering a taxi; these are unauthorized drivers who will likely overcharge you and may not be insured. There is a fixed fare of €55 (as of 2025) from Fiumicino Airport to any location within the central Aurelian Walls, which covers most tourist areas. This price includes luggage and is for up to four passengers, but most taxis are relatively small sedans.

Trains
The airport train station is located inside the airport complex; follow the signs for “Treni” or “Trains” from the arrivals hall. It’s a short 10-minute walk via connected walkways. The most straightforward is the Leonardo Express, a non-stop train that travels directly to Rome’s central train station, Roma Termini, in about 32 minutes. For guests staying near Termini or who need to connect to the metro, this is the best choice. Tickets can be purchased from the official Trenitalia ticket counters or automated kiosks at the station, but you can buy them online or via the Trenitalia app to avoid delays. Crucially, you must validate your paper ticket by stamping it in one of the small green and white machines at the entrance to the platform before boarding; digital tickets do not need validation.

The Leonardo Express direct train to Termini costs 14 euros per person, and you may still need to take a metro or taxi to reach your final destination.
Buses
Bus Service is a good alternative to the train, it costs only 7 euros, and the Bus terminal is at the right end of the pavement outside the airport terminal, a 5/10 minute walk.

Ride-Sharing Apps (Uber, etc.)
While Uber is available in Rome, it’s generally more expensive than taxis, and with a small booking fee, you can also book official white taxis via Uber. It’s probably more convenient to use as a city transfer than an airport transfer, as locating your Uber may not be easy, and it may involve some extra walking as well.
Pre-Booked Private Cars (NCC)
For the most convenient and stress-free arrival, you can pre-book a private car service. The great advantage of this option is that a professional driver will be waiting for you in the arrivals hall, directly outside of baggage claim, holding a sign with your name on it. The driver will help with luggage and take you directly to your hotel for a pre-agreed, all-inclusive price. This eliminates any worry about navigating the airport, finding the proper transportation, or dealing with payment upon arrival, making it an excellent option for first-time visitors. If you’d like to use this option, arrangements can be made for you by our friend, Mario Bernardi, who owns The Grand Tour Europe.
